UI/UX for re-setting the password
I forget my password as I have so many online accounts. I wish I had a single sign-on for everything, and I log in seamlessly. Thanks to Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and many others who have made single sign-on possible. What happens when I for the password for the single sign-on? Oh! I am stuck.
I want to login into the bank or financial website, which asks us to log in with a user ID and password. Oh!, I don’t remember the password. We can re-set the password. I am sharing a case of a financial website flow to reset passwords. Let us read and learn something to avoid.
Step 1 —The User enters the email ID.
Step 2 — The user does not remember the password hence clicks on forgot password link.
Step 3 — Reset password via email or mobile number. The user chooses a mobile number to get a four-digit, one-time password (OTP).
Step 4 — The user receives an OTP via SMS.
Step 5 — Enter the new password twice to reconfirm.
Step 6 —The user attempts to enter the password, with each validation, the system prompts to correct the password. The user learns in 4 steps how to set a password meeting all criteria. This is very frustrating! The user might even stop using the service.
Step 7 — The validations are behind small i. The user will easily miss this. Better to provide these validations in the bottom left corner. As the user enters the new password, the validation keeps going green or removed from the screen. This change makes it a one-time password entry.
